Ultra trail running as a Way of Life
Hi, I'm Kevin. Ultra trail runner, heart surgery survivor, and someone who believes the mountains have a way of putting everything into perspective. Glad you're here.
From marathon finish lines to mountain ultras
Running, for me, is a way of life. It started as a challenge, but over the years, it evolved into a way to stay grounded, grow, and reconnect with nature, myself, friends, and what truly matters.
The spark was lit in 2010 when I crossed the finish line of the New York Marathon in 3:28:00. That first race opened the door to iconic marathons in cities like Valencia and even along the mystical shores of Loch Ness. But after a while, the crowds and concrete started to wear on me. I found myself craving something different. Something quieter, rawer, more honest.
Into the mountains
In 2021, I took my first steps into trail running, and by 2022, I was scrambling over the rugged cliffs of the Faroe Islands in an off-trail half-marathon. The deeper I went into the mountains, the more at home I felt.
The race that changed everything
Then came 2024. I ran my first ultra-trail race, the breathtaking Laugavegur Ultra, in Iceland. It was everything I hoped it would be: brutal, beautiful, transformative. I felt stronger than ever. But just weeks later, everything changed.
A routine check-up turned into a life-altering diagnosis: severe heart disease. I went from ultra-fit to undergoing bypass surgery in a matter of days. It was a shock, especially after being cleared "100% healthy" not long before.
Comeback
But instead of breaking me, it reshaped me. I committed fully, training like a professional athlete with a full support team behind me.
Just four months after surgery, I was back on the trails for my first post-op marathon. And not long after that, I finished the UTMB Andorra 50 km - 3,500 metres of brutal elevation. Since then, I've kept pushing the boundaries, toeing the start line at races like UTMB Kaçkar and UTMB Chianti 100k - with plenty more on the horizon.
Sharing what I've learned
That journey - the training, the science, the setbacks, and the breakthroughs - is what now drives me as a UESCA-certified ultra trail running coach. I work with a small number of dedicated athletes worldwide, helping them train smarter, recover better, and go further. If that sounds like you, find out more on my online ultra running coaching.
This website and my Instagram are where I share the journey. The highs and lows. The tough climbs and quiet moments. Whether you're here for training tips, race stories, or just a bit of inspiration β welcome.
